Raabta trailer: Sushant, Kriti's film creatively unfolds as romantic thriller split over two eras
Raabta justifies its title by going beyond a romantic connotation to establish a karmic connection between Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput.
The first look of Dinesh Vijan's directorial debut Raabta caught everyone's attention because of the lead pair, Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon's chemistry.
But it seemed like yet another candyfloss young romance between two desirable actors.
Now that the trailer is out, the makers have debunked that perception, and how!
While a major chunk of the trailer revolves around the romance of Rajput and Sanon, there is a twist. The trailer unfolds itself gradually and exposes the viewers to its bloodier side immediately after the screen flashes - 'From the makers of Badlapur.'
The film then transports itself to a completely different tangent as we witness a prehistoric era and the avatars of Rajput, Sanon and Neerja-fame Jim Sarbh. The title of the film transcends beyond a romantic connotation and literally establishes a karmic connect between the lead trio.
In fact, by the end of the trailer, it seems that the love story of Rajput and Sanon's characters actually rages against their very destiny and other forces of the cosmos.
The popular song 'Raabta' of Sriram Raghavan's 2012 spy thriller Agent Vinod has been used well in the trailer, and also lends a haunting feel to it, in tune with the theme of the film.
The film also shows shades similar to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's box office disaster from last year, the romantic saga Mirzya, since the two films bridge the gap between two seemingly remote eras.
However, Raabta seems different in its tone as it comes across as less poetic, more stylised and fast-paced, qualities that are likely to work in its favour.
Raabta also stars Varun Sharma and Deepika Padukone, in a cameo. It is co-produced by Bhushan and Krishan Kumar's T-Series and Vijan and Homi Adjania's Maddock Films. The romantic thriller is slated to release on 9 June.
Kamaal Khan in his plea said a film viewer cannot be prohibited from making comments about a film or its characters.
