Not Dead Yet! George RR Martin points out he's still alive after fans confuse him with late Beatles’ producer

George RR Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series — better known as Game of Thrones — has assured fans that he is alive and well, after many of them mistakenly believed that he had died after RIP messages for his namesake, George Martin — the Beatles’ producer — flooded social media over Tuesday and Wednesday. The author took to his blog to tell fans that he was quite hale and hearty, thank you, in a post cheekily titled, “Not Dead Yet”.

He also referenced Mark Twain’s famous quote to a reporter, addressing rumours about his death, saying that they were “greatly exaggerated”, the Guardian reported. Image from AFP[/caption] “While it is strangely moving to realise that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” Martin wrote on his blog. “It was Sir George Martin, of Beatles fame, who has passed away. Not me… As for me, I am still here, still writing, still editing, still going to movies and reading books, and I expect to hang around for quite a while yet, thank you very much. But thank you all for caring.” He then went on to talk about how much he loved the Beatles’ music, and how sad he was at Sir George’s passing. He also described a chance “one-minute” meeting with Sir Paul McCartney, while they were both waiting for their cars at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. Martin’s longevity has long been a concern among Game of Thrones fans, who fear the 67-year-old might die before finishing the seven-part series. Books Six (The Winds of Winter) and Seven (A Dream of Spring) are still awaited, and Martin has not yet revealed a publishing date for these. His last book in the series, A Dance With Dragons, came out in 2011. Fans responded to Martin’s blog post with sighs of relief — and some friendly advice on “taking vitamins” an “getting enough rest”.
