Five things you need to know about Rhea Chakraborty's next film Sonali Cable

Sonali Cable, featuring actress and MTV VJ Rhea Chakraborty and Bobby Jasoos actor Ali Fazal, is all set to release on 17th October, 2014. Produced by Ramesh Sippy Entertainment, the film has been made on a shoestring budget and so far, the makers have relied on online buzz and word of the mouth for publicity. To not rely mainstream media and its publicity machinery seems like a bold move for a small film. Will the story and performances of Sonali Cable be able to win over audiences? We’ll have to wait till next week to find out, but till then, here are a few details about the film. 1. The film is about a small-time cable and internet operator named Sonali (Chakraborty), who provides broadband connections to a sprawling Mumbai suburb. All is fine until she comes under the radar of a huge corporation named Shining Inc, headed by Anupam Kher. Shining wants Sonali out of the picture and a monopoly for Shining Broadband. However, Sonali refuses to surrender and declares a war against the corporate giant. It’s a classic David-verus-Goliath story, with a few splashes of romance thrown in for a little additional drama. 2. Ali Fazal, who was last seen opposite Vidya Balan in Bobby Jasoos, plays Raghu, Sonali’s love interest. He’s Sonali’s best friend who returns from the United States and inspires her to grow her business. As far as the love story angle is concerned, there’s an Atif Aslam-esque song, “ Ek Mulaqat”, sung by Jubin Nautiyal that chronicles the romance between Sonali and Raghu. Fazal can also be seen in a Ganpati visarjan sequence, seen in the video of the song “ Gannu Rocks”. Another attraction in Sonali Cable is the club mix called “ Cheenti Cheenti Bang Bang”, which shows off the dance moves of the King of Slow Motion, choreographer Raghav Juyal, who makes his debut with this film. Sonali Cable has music composed by Daniel B George, Mikey McCleary Amjad Nadeem and Raghav Sachar. Unfortunately, it sounds like too many cooks spoil the broth because most of the soundtrack is utterly forgettable. Acharya wrote the screenplay director Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum and Nautanki Saala . The script of Sonali Cable, penned by Acharya himself, was one of the eight scripts selected for Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2012. 4. Apparently, Sonali Cable was inspired by Acharya’s real life experiences. Years ago, the filmmaker had to sent out an email urgently but couldn’t because his internet connection wasn’t working. “I remembered an 18-year-old girl’s number, who used to work for that internet service provider. I had spoken to her earlier but I doubted if she would speak to me that late night. I called her and told her jokingly ‘K_al tum sab meri mayyat me aa jaana’._ When she heard my dilemma she was quick to come to my rescue,” recalled the filmmaker. That girl inspired the character of Sonali. 5. While the publicity of the film has been slow, what’s adding to the producer and the filmmaker’s woes is that Chakraborty, who happens to be the relatively popular name in the cast is unable to promote the film.  Reportedly, the actress’ management is refusing to give dates for promotions of the film. Chakraborty has already started shooting for YRF’s Bank Chor and cannot spare time for the promotions of Sonali Cable. “We had intimated the talents (actors) about the same. They had been told we’d be needing time, especially in the last one week before the film’s release.” said Sippy, who has produced the film. “But it’s strange now that Rhea’s management is not reverting to us with her time. She plays the title character and we are unable to fix the promotion schedule.”
