Mouni Roy's first leading role to be opposite Akshay Kumar in Reema Kagti's Gold?
It was earlier speculated that Shraddha Kapoor will play the role opposite Akshay Kumar in this period sports drama.
It was earlier reported that Excel Entertainment's first web series, Karan Anshuman's Inside Edge, will have strong female characters despite it being based on cricket, a sport dominated by men.
Similarly, there will be a strong female character in their next film, Gold, which is also a sports drama directed by Reema Kagti and starring Akshay Kumar. It was speculated earlier that the makers were considering Shraddha Kapoor for the role but now, reports suggest that television actor Mouni Roy has been signed instead.
Mumbai Mirror reports that the makers have cast Roy for the role opposite Kumar in what will be her first Hindi film in the capacity of the leading lady. She has already made her debut with a cameo in Anubhav Sinha's romantic drama Tum Bin 2 last year.
Koimoi.com reports that Roy will begin shooting extensively with Kumar for 20 to 25 days in August. She is one of the few female characters in the film as the story is set in the late 1940s and 1950s and revolves around India's first victory as an independent nation when they won a gold medal in hockey in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.
Roy has been seen on the small screen in shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the Naagin franchise and will also be seen in Naagin 3 that goes on the floors by the end of this year.
Gold also stars Kunal Kapoor and is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. It is slated to release on 15 August 2018.
An FIR was registered at the Amboli police station against a man for extortion and other charges of the IPC, a day after an offence was registered against Bhushan Kumar for allegedly raping a woman under the pretext of providing her with a job in T-series.
