Kangana Ranaut's Jaanbaaz Julia character in Rangoon, channels a 'Hunterwali' vibe
A new prop from Visal Bhardwaj's Rangoon shows that Kangana Ranaut's character 'Jaanbaaz Julia' is the leading lady in a film called 'Toofan Ki Beti'
Daenerys Targaryen may have claimed 'Stormborn' as one of her many titles, but closer home, Kangana Ranaut has got a fairly stormy moniker for herself.
It is common knowledge by now that in Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming magnum opus Rangoon, Kangana plays an actress called "Jaanbaaz Julia". The role of Julia has been pitched as fearless, and bold — in fact, many observers have compared Kangana's onscreen avatar to Fearless Nadia (real name Mary Ann Evans), the star of films like Hunterwali, and often pitched as the first feminist heroine of the Hindi film industry.
In a report dated 19 December 2016, Mumai Mirror has now highlighted a prop from Rangoon — a poster of a film that 'Jaanbaaz Julia' is starring in. The film is called — and this is where the Daenerys Targaryen reference comes in — Toofan Ki Beti. It depicts Julia — that is Kangana — dressed in black leather, with a mask obscuring her eyes. In her hands, she holds a whip up high, ready to crack it on her adversaries. Knee high boots, a black Zorro-like hat, and elbow-length leather gloves complete the 'Jaanbaaz Julia' look.
The 'poster' of Toofan Ki Beti declares that it has been produced by Navroz Talkies.

The Mumbai Mirror report quoted a source as saying, "Julia (Kangana) is a '40s diva who comes into films via theatre as was the convention at the time, went to the front to entertain soldiers fighting during World War II. That's where Julia, who is in love with a producer (Saif Ali Khan), meets Shahid Kapoor's character and loses her heart again."
