IPL opening ceremony: Chris Brown, Major Lazer, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh will perform

For those suffering from withdrawal symptoms ever since the ICC World Twenty20 ended on 3 April, a fresh dose of cricket is already at hand in the form of the upcoming 2016 VIVO IPL. And for its ninth edition, a glittering opening ceremony has been planned at the Dome, NSCI, in Mumbai. Desi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh will also be part of the line-up. An official statement by Chris Brown read, “We are very excited to perform in India for the very first time… Looking forward to a crazy night of mayhem and meeting all my beautiful people in India.” It was a sentiment echoed by Major Lazer, who said, “All of us are excited to be back in India, bringing carnival to the fans”. Ranveer Singh and Jacqueline Fernandez both said that they would be performing acts that are inspired by the sport, the spirit of the players and the fervour of fans. Honey Singh’s set will include a compilation of all his hit numbers so far. “I will showcase to the world how music and sport go hand in hand,” the rapper said.
