Shirish Kunder who? He’s an editor-turned-filmmaker married to choreographer-turned-filmmaker, Farah Khan. To put it simply, he’s Farah Khan’s husband. That’s about as right a description for someone who hasn’t really cut in the film business, yet. Apparently, he’s been observing the movements of Shah Rukh Khan’s 150 crore Diwali release, Ra.One a tad too closely on Twitter. A day before the release of the film, he tweeted, “Taran Adarsh writes the review of a movie. He trends, the movie doesn’t!” and retweeted jokes like “The super hero in Ra.One has all the powers in the world but to entertain.” But on 26 October, he wrote a snide one – “I just heard a 150 cr firework fizzle.” It is his opinion and like everybody else, he is entitled to it. [/caption] But somehow, Kunder’s reaction seems biased and a sure-fire case of sour grapes. Not too long ago, his wife had a falling out with SRK, her friend and professional ally for years for reasons best known to them. The rumour versions of the same are aplenty, but then Bollywood without the gossip grist would’nt be the same! It was SRK who produced and acted in the first ever feature film Kunder’s wife, Farah directed, Main Hoon Na in 2004, which Kunder had edited. Her second film, Om Shanti Om which came out in 2007, too starred SRK and Kunder had edited that too. But over the past couple of years, Farah no longer belongs to the inner sanctum of SRK’s close aides and confidants, despite both SRK and her claiming all is well between them on numerous public occasions. She has also not choreographed any song in Ra.One, given she only choreographs for Karan Johar, SRK and her husband of course, ever since she turned director. She went on to direct Tees Maar Khan in 2010 starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, and no one would remember the film today if it weren’t for the super hit track, Sheila Ki Jawani, which Katrina shimmied to in the film. But due credit to Kunder here – it was he who named the track Sheila Ki Jawani, as his wife proclaimed in every promotional interview before the release of the film. Besides baptizing the song, Kunder was also responsible for the screenplay and the story of Tees Maar Khan. Let’s take a look at his film graph as a director and writer in Bollywood: 2006 – Jaan-E-Mann starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta. In one word, disaster. 2011 – Joker, which is filming and stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. The question that remains unanswered is – Why is Kunder lashing out at SRK and what does he stand to gain from Ra.One’s success or as he wills and believes, failure? Or it is crystal clear that it’s just another desperate, not to mention, jealous bid for attention, riding the gigantic SRK wave?
