When it aired back in the ’90s, Hip Hip Hurray was the coolest TV show around for so many reasons. Here was a show about a bunch of high school kids who were dealing with all kinds of high-school-kids-like problems, including peer and parental pressure, academic stress, love troubles, drug use etc — but having a whole lot of fun, nonetheless. The bunch of youngsters — the cast included Kishwer Merchant, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Vishal Merchant, Purab Kholi, Shweta Salve among others — were shown to be Class 12 students of the DeNobili High School. Now, 15 years after that much-loved original, Hip Hip Hurray is being revived as a Web series, with an all-new cast, reports Hindustan Times. The lead actor, Rohan Shah (he’s a known face thanks to his advertisements and TV shows as a child star), shared some images from Day One of the shoot on a social networking site, and from what we can see, there’s nothing “90s” about this fresh-faced bunch. Not only are their uniforms way “cooler” than the original Hurray-ers, they’re also no strangers to selfies, and other such new age phenomena. While we’ll wait to see how this revamp works out, we can’t help but feel a moment of nostalgia for the original group. What do you have to say about their successors?
