A division bench of the Bombay High Court headed by Justice Mohit Shah and Justice RS Dalvi has passed an injunction order against multi crore Shah Rukh Kahn starer Ra.One. The court has asked Red Chilli Productions to pledge one crore in the court by tomorrow to ensure the release of the movie as scheduled.
The order comes following television producer and script writer Yash Patnaik’s plea before the Bombay High Court claiming that the Ra.One was conceptualised by him, and the producers of the film have copied his idea of an Indian superhero, thus violating the copy right act.
Patnaik claimed that he had spent several hours on conceptualising the film and on December, 26, 2006, had registered the concept with the Film Writers Association.
Subsequently, he made several presentations to the Mushtaq Sheikh, the screen play writer of the film Ra.One, who gave him evasive replies and in 2010 told Patnaik that he had shelved the project of making the film on Patnaik’s concept.
Senior Counsel Ravi Kadam, appearing for Patnaik pointed out various similarities in the film and the concept of Patnaik.
However, Shah Rukh’s counsel Dr V Tulzapurkar argued, “It is nothing but a black mailing tactic by Patnaik, and if he was really concerned about his concept he would have moved the high court earlier and not when some few days are left before the release.”
