From Amy Adams to Clooney: The best, worst and absurd acceptance speeches of Golden Globes 2015

If Golden Globes gave away a special award for the best speech of the night, the strongest contenders for that award might be the hostesses themselves— Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. However, that does not mean that celebrities weren’t good enough either. The 72nd Golden Globes had some really memorable and not-so-memorable acceptance speeches. From head scratching what-are-they-talking-about to the emotional teary-eyed thank you, here’s a list of the best, weird and utterly forgettable acceptance speeches from this year’s Golden Globes award ceremony. The Gina Rodriguez’s acceptance speech for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for her performance in Jane, the Virgin and gave a very moving acceptance speech. The teary-eyed actress also spoke about how the award “represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes”. Despite being overcome by emotions, the actress ended her speech with “I can and I did.” Here her complete speech here:

2. Kevin Spacey, Best Actor, TV Drama: Spacey started in true Frank Underwood style and said, “This is just the beginning of my revenge.” The actor finally got the Golden Globe this year for his role in House of Cards , the same role for which he was nominated last year but failed to win. Spacey eloquently thanked his unit and co-stars and also cussed in his acceptance speech saying that he has been nominated eight times before and yet this is his first win. 3Amy Adams, Best Actress, Musical or Comedy: Talking about being ill-prepared, Amy Adams’ speech can serve as a manual on How Not To Give Acceptance Speeches. The actress was happily surprised to win a Golden Globe for her role in Big Eyes but she was literally speechless for the first few seconds before attempting a speech. Adams fumbled for most parts, confessed twice that she was ill-prepared and somehow ended on a very pleasant note as she spoke of Christoph Waltz’s charisma. Click here to view her speech:

4. JK Simmons, Best Supporting Actor JK Simmons had the most interesting speech of the evening where he asked the audiences to ‘shut up’ so that he can speak and then thanked his wife for their ‘adorable above-average children’. He also thanked the Whiplash team, especially his co-star Miles Teller. Click below to hear his speech:

5. George Clooney, Cecil B. DeMille award Last but definitely not the least Clooney won the prestigious Cecil B DeMille Award, presented annually to an individual who’s made “an incredible impact on the world of entertainment”. Looking suave in a tuxedo, Clooney delivered a fitting speech while accepting the award. His eyes were set on his wife and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who made a style statement in a black ensemble. Listen to his speech here:
