First look: Check out Sushant Singh Rajput as MS Dhoni in the biopic of the cricketer

After the success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and the luke warm response to Mary Kom, biopics seem to be the new winning formula of Bollywood and while there are many such films to look forward to, Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s biopic might be the next film the moviegoers get to see. [caption id=“attachment_1730059” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Courtesy: Twitter[/caption] The first look of the Dhoni’s biopic ‘M.S Dhoni - The Untold Story’ was unveiled by his wife, Sakshi Singh Dhoni on Twitter on Thursday and it shows Sushant Singh Rajput who is all set to play the cricketer on the silver screen, wearing the famous Dhoni jersey with his lucky number — seven — written on it.

While there were rumours that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had opposed the making of this film, the BCCI had later made it clear that they had no objection to the film as long as it doesn’t hamper the professional life of the Indian captain. There were also reports that Dhoni has charged an exuberant amount of money to give a nod to this film ‘M.S Dhoni - The Untold Story’ has been directed by Neeraj Pandey, who also made A Wednesday and Special 26. While several sports based biopics have already been made including the critically acclaimed Pan Singh Tomar, there are quite a few in the pipeline. Media reports claim that several biopics are being contemplated on the life of India’s greatest hockey player. In fact, reports claim that Shah Rukh Khan is likely to portray Dhyan Chand’s character in one such film. Shah Rukh confirmed the news, saying “Yes, I have been approached for a movie based on the legendary Dhyan Chandji’s life. Hockey, as a sport, isn’t new to me since I have been an athlete throughout my school and college life, and I’ve played a lot, especially hockey.” In fact, very few know that SRK led the hockey team in his school. However, the details of Shah Rukh’s project are still under the wraps, while a couple of other biopics on Dhyan Chand are already underway. Also, reportedly track-and-field athlete PT Usha’s husband has also been approached with an offer of a biopic on Usha. The film is likely to show her journey from becoming the first Indian woman to reach the final of an Olympic event to being the woman who has earned maximum number of gold medals in a single track meet at the 1985 Asian Track and Field Meet.
