Dharmendra in LBD, Jeetendra in miniskirt: Baahubali sent us hunting for Bollywood's epic costume fails

Touted as India’s answer to Zack Snyder’s 300, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali has sent India into a happy tizzy. Though the leading men in the film are not seen in anything as remotely adventurous as the toga skirt, the costumes are being touted as spectacular.  However, that doesn’t mean we have not had our share of heroes in, let’s say, bold costumes. We have drawn up a list and this isn’t one for the faint-hearted. Warning: It involves Dharmendra and Jeetendra’s thighs. Shah Rukh Khan in Asoka  Let’s start with our favourite. Shah Rukh Khan as Emperor Ashoka in Asoka. When you have managed to distract yourself from that pout, we’d ask you cast your eyes on the serving trays on his arms. And that - an adult bib we think - worn over a cardigan. Screams kickass warrior, right? Salman Khan in Suryavanshi and Veer  Presenting shuddh desi Hulk Hogan - Salman Khan in Suryavanshi. From colour-blocked body hair (blonde locks, golden beard and black chest hair) to Goth accessories, Khan is the Vogue of budget BDSM lovers. And look at that pendant, which finds its place back on Khan’s cleavage back in Veer! Abhishek Bachchan in Drona  Abishekh Bachchan as a warrior with magical powers in Drona. If you didn’t have the misfortune of watching the movie, you’d think his superpower is shocking people to death with absurd costumes. Let’s consider what he is wearing in this one: a schizophrenic salwar kameez which thinks it is a sherwani. Don’t laugh at those sequins, they are supposed to blind you and then kill you. That’s the next stage of evolution for the lightsaber. Amitabh Bachchan in Ajooba    Amitabh Bachchan’s Ajooba could have been simply named ‘Main Catwoman Ban Na Chahta Hoon’. Dharmendra in Dharam Veer  Hail the desi pioneer of the LBD. It’s really sad that the film was called Dharam Veer, not Breakfast at Paji’s. If it did, we would have had a true answer to Audrey Hepburn. Jeetendra in Naagin  *A minute of silence for the mini skirt* If Mattel ever has to come up with a Nagraj Barbie, Jeetendra from Nagin should be able to help. As for us, we will let Arnold Schwarzenegger speak on our behalf.
