Have you ever wondered what will make Sheila, Munni and Chameli frown with contempt? It’s a perfectly awesome song that is wasted because the girl dancing on it has the moves of a wooden door and the expressions of a clean white board. If you don’t understand what we are getting at, here’s Shraddha Kapoor, trying to be the new item girl in Ungli’s latest song, Dance Basanti.
Watch the video:
While the choreographer of dance, Sachin–Jigar have tried every trick in the book to make the item song hip and happening — from pumping smoke, fireworks to loads of glitter and club lighting — the dance number is an epic fail and can mostly be blamed on Shraddha Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi.
While Sharaddha is the least ‘bisphotak’ (combustible) thing in the video, Hashmi looks like Amitabh Bachchan trying to pull a Govinda. With catchy lyrics like_, “Nigori tera thumka bada kinky kinky type da”_ the song sounds like one of those Punjabi numbers that instantly becomes a club favourite.
The song references Sholay’s Basanti (Hema Malini), who dances for Gabbar Singh to stop him from killing Veeru (Dharmendra) in the film. Penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Vishal Dadlani sang the song with a rap a section by Anushka Manchanda.
While this is Kapoor’s first item number, let’s just hope, next time on, if she attempts to one, the actress actually tries and emotes.
Produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Rensil D’Silva, Ungli is slated to release on 28 November, 2014.
