Although belated, AR Rahman will get the best Diwali gift ever from Berklee College of Music. At a concert organised by the college on 24th October, to honour Rahman, the music maestro will receive an honorary doctorate from the institution. Rahman is naturally ecstatic to receive the honour from this prestigious institution, the students equally excited and have organised a concert for Rahman. They’ve also made two videos to show their love for Rahman’s music. [caption id=“attachment_1765559” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

In it we see students of the college dressed in white salwar-kameez and red dupatta singing Rahman’s Jiya Jale from the film, Dil Se. In accompaniment to violins, and piano, the chorus as well as the lead singer sounds pitch perfect. You can watch the video here:
Not just a tribute, the students also made a very special video of their favourite Rahman songs and the video has students from as far away as Kenya and Japan hum Mitwa enthusiastically. Also, kids from Greece, Chile and Indonesia tell you their favourite Rahman songs. Watch the video here:
An article on the Berklee College of Music site quotes Rahman saying, “I’m deeply moved to receive an honorary doctorate from such a distinguished school which has contributed so much to the world of music. I’m especially proud and honored the college is graciously establishing a scholarship in my name for future generations of musicians to follow their dreams.”
