With Rs 79 cr in one week, trade analysts declare Akshay Kumar's 'Airlift' a success

Airlift certainly drew enough attention even before its release and it has reflected at the box-office since its opening last Friday. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the numbers swelled over Saturday and Sunday taking the film’s first weekend collection to be made Rs 44.30 crore.

#Airlift went from strength to strength with each passing day. Fri 12.35 cr, Sat 14.60 cr, Sun 17.35 cr. Total: ₹ 44.30 cr. India biz. FAB!

Screengrab from YouTube[/caption] The film fabled around a real incident of evacuating 1,70,000 Indians from Kuwait in 1990 and how a man, here Ranjit Katyal, played by Akshay Kumar, takes the initiative and make this happen. Akshaya Kumar does take risks with his roles — be it Baby, Special 26, or Oh My God!— but they have all turned out to be great successes, at least critically. Airlift sets a new precedence — that good content can actually translate into a box-office success too. “It’s quite a rarity that the year started on such a good note. In four weeks we already have two successes. Airlift is definitely a big success,” trade Analyst Komal Nahta told Firstpost. By Wednesday, the collection (net theatrical) is Rs 78.50 crore and Taran Adarsh has assumed that collections during the first week of the film can surpass Akshay’s fully commercial film Rowdy Rathore.

#Airlift is SENSATIONAL on Tue. Crosses ₹ 70 cr. Should easily surpass Akshay's highest *Week 1* biz - #RowdyRathore ₹ 79.52 cr... contd.

It’s yet to touch the celebratory Rs 100 crore mark. But trade analyst Komal Nahta is sure that it would by this weekend or latest by early next week. “It will make Rs 100 by next week,” said Nahta.
