Quantitative easing ( QE) is something that cannot be stopped, even though it makes no sense to continue it. Tapering would lead to a large influx of dollars into the US from the emerging markets, leading to price inflation. Price inflation without income/employment generation would lead to severe dependence on the Govt and Social Security, leading the Govt to borrow more. The cycle is again destructive. There are no easy solutions for the Fed or the White House.
