Making five out of six finals and winning the IPL twice says all you need to know about the Chennai Super Kings. Having faltered at the last step the previous two years, CSK are back to reclaim their crown this season. In 2012 they lost the title to KKR and last season they went down in the finals to their fierce rival Mumbai Indians. Fans of other teams are happy to see CSK losing but they should be wary: when a lion takes two steps back, it’s not because it is scared but to create momentum to attack. This could be MS Dhoni’s toughest season yet. BCCI[/caption] This season CSK has improved its armory by bringing in the world’s most successful T20 batsman in Brandon McCullum and West Indiies legspinner Samuel Badree, who is among the most economical bowlers in T20. If international cricket form is taken into account, CSK looks invincible as their players like McCullum, Suresh Raina, R Ashwin, Badree, Dwayne Bravo, and Faf du Plessis are in ominous form. The team also has best bunch of fielders in the league, giving them an edge against any other franchise. They also have the best set of T20 batsman and a more than decent bowling line-up. In short, the ‘whistle podu’ have a massive advantage over their opponents in terms of big match experience. Icing on the cake is their captain cool, MS Dhoni, who is unarguably the best captain in the shortest format of the game. His mental toughness and ability to soak up pressure permeates through the team, which results in their never say die spirit similar to old Manchester United, which could make come back from any situation and win matches from nowhere. After all the allegations and controversies around CSK, this time their reputation is at stake. They have to shrug this off and let the world know what they are made of. Every CSK fan believes that it can come back from worst of the situations and no expert writes CSK off till the last ball is bowled. CSK has the best group of fans too that can only be matched by Mumbai Indians. They back their team by coming out in large numbers wherever they go and make life tough for their opponents even in their home grounds. CSK has become only team to have more than 600k followers on Twitter. They have firepower everywhere and are on their way to becoming most loved team in India. For CSK, like Manchester United or Barcelona, finishing second is not something to celebrate but something to grieve over. Nothing but the championship can satisfy CSK and its fans. This IPL season every fan of CSK has just one thing to say, “Bring back the glory, bring back the crown.”
An engineer by profession but a sportsman by heart. Dreams to see India as world champion in every sport. Mad about Team India, CSK and Manchester United. Giving opinion on sports and politics is my favourite work. Aspires to be Sports Minister of India someday.
