It's nearly December and that can mean only one thing: The season of #indianwedding is trending

With the wedding season right around the corner, wedding photos have begun doing the rounds on Instagram.

The Big Fat Indian Wedding is no longer only popular in northern India, but in the south too, as these pictures hashtagged #indianwedding depict. Known for its grandeur, style, tradition and time frame — lasting an average of three or so days — this phenomenon is becoming a more regular affair among Indian families.

From a social media standpoint, the wedding season comes along at a time when Facebook profiles begin to look a bit drab, and the spectacular visuals are ideal when it comes to revitalising a cover image. That apart, the Big Fat Indian Wedding is a perfect occasion to get together or show your friends how you've progressed from the past, and all the other things in between. And what better way to capture it all than a selfie?

Event managers, planners and candid photographers will do it all from a one-stop shop, and send you a big fat cheque at the end. From decor to replicating a scene or a sequence from a Bollywood film, everything can be done. In case you're are still short of anything, there's always room to inject more glamour into the occasion with performances to enchant guests. There's brides spending their day in the limelight as Kajol and grooms as Shah Rukh Khan over the strains of the Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge soundtrack. Or if that's too mainstream, there's photo shoots in front of the Taj Mahal and what have you. Delusions of grandeur or self-indulgence? You decide.

Meanwhile, you can look at these striking pictures of Indian weddings pictures on Instagram, while you prepare to hashtag yours, or the one you attend.
