Facebook image.[/caption] Jaggi, I am glad you did not use the racist angle like so many nationalists love to. this is a case with multiple layers. But a few things are clear: 1. Indians, whoever they are, cannot be allowed to be treated shabbily under a foreign country’s law. Diplomats have immunity. This is their right and every eligible Indian diplomat can walk away. The US has recourse. They can ask for such a diplomat to leave the country. That is the US’s right and I am sure India will have no option but to comply. 2. Indians should use reciprocity, not just with the US but also with China. I am surprised by many in the media who want the Indian response to be soft. That kind of attitude is exactly how you get frisked, detained or strip searched. US diplomats in India should be subject to a very strict implementation of Indian law and every opportunity should be used to stick it to the US if you really want them to learn. 3. Indian foreign policy needs to get rid of buffoons like Salman Khurshid and his precedessor. Some iron fist in velvet glove is important. 4. Every individual who is part of the government in one way or another must be made to declare dependence on foreign countries that may motivate them to put India’s needs on the backseat to their own. Too many senior officials in the government can be easily bought out by the US. This is a major danger to the country.
