Editors note: This is a reader comment we got on the article, “The Big Debate: Will Dhoni go for the win or play for a draw?” published earlier. In the article, Ashish Magotra and Tariq Engineer debate whether Dhoni will go on the offensive or settle for draws in tough conditions in South Africa. As is Firstpost policy, we have lightly edited for grammar and spelling, but the comment has been left as is. by Prashanth Narasimhan Ashokan Gambhir and Sehwag were the openers in the drubbing we got against England and Australia in overseas condition. And Gambhir and Sehwag didn’t do well when England came to India as well. So it is only wise to give a chance to Dhawan and Vijay. [caption id=“attachment_1294631” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Murali Vijay. PTI[/caption] Even if they fail, India should persist with these two until the end of the series in New Zealand. Gambhir and Sehwag were given chances for almost three years of non-performance (at least Sehwag scored a century, Gambhir didn’t even do that in Tests), so these two need time too. Nobody can adapt if they are taken off after one or two Test matches.
