Editor’s note: This is a reader comment we received on the article, “Too Arrogant? Carlsen takes more potshots at Anand”. Sourobh has a comment about arrogance is culture-specific. As per Firstpost policy, we have lightly edited for grammar and spelling, but the comment has been left as is. By Sourobh [caption id=“attachment_125317” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand. PTI[/caption] It appears that the remark reflects not only a generation gap but also a cultural gap. In the Indian context humility is a virtue - The highest ideals in an Indic perspective is to be wise but still remain grounded and of course humble. Carlsen is far too flamboyant from an Indic psychoanalytic perspective - he appears too shallow, naive, an immature 22-year-old bloke on cloud nine for achieving things too early in life. He might be a genius but he needs lessons on humility. On the other hand, from a western perspective (without having being born and bred in an environment of learning to please elders) his remarks might be very objective, without any intent to insult.
