Editors note: This is a comment by a reader named Roshan, that we received in response to the article “ AAPs Shazia Ilmi asks Muslims to be communal in viral video ” that was published today. As is Firstpost policy, the comment has been lightly edited for language and grammar. By Roshan Watched the video. It certainly does not seem like a Togadia or an Azam Khan speech or situation. Shazia Ilmi is probably countering the men saying that they have been and will vote for ‘“secular’” parties like Congress and SP, by saying that Muslims have been secular for too long and they are not protecting their interests (by aligning with the vote bank parties). [caption id=“attachment_1492809” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Shazia Ilmi’s speech could spell trouble for AAP.[/caption] Obviously she is inviting them to AAP away from the traditional ’ secular’ parties. In this age of clips plucked out of context, what you hear is what you get. The damage is done. But, like many of the dangerous kind, mullah or saffron version, she certainly was not inciting communalism or spreading poison
She should not have used that expression ’ you have to be communal’ - even if she used it ironically, in jest or to convey a paradox.
