Editors note: This comment was made by Premlal Pandey on the article, _Full Text: US Attorney Preet Bharara defends action against Devyani Khobragade_ . Pandey says that there are still some burning questions that Bharara must answer. Firstpost usually edits for language and grammar, but this comment has been left as is. by Premlal Pandey Preet Bharara, the US Attorney, has chosen to be the spokesman of the US State Department in justifying the action (or ill treatment!) of Devyani Khobargade. Reminding the Attorney that Devyani Khobargade is a Dy Consul General of Indian Consulate and as per her assertions she was handcuffed and strip-searched to such a ludicrous extreme as probing her cavities, I ask the attorney to clarify on the following: (1) Does the case of payment of wages in disharmony of US Laws fall in the category of heinous crimes warranting an arrest of an Indian Diplomat, who is accorded immunity, under UN Convention, from arrest in criminal cases not so heinous? [caption id=“attachment_1296147” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] AP[/caption] (2) Does American Law on the subject, Court pronouncements or Departmental procedures promulgated from time to time, authorise a Police Officer to handcuff a woman accused who was not known for violent behaviour, who did not resist arrest and who was not likely to abscond. If there are any such mandates please quote. (3) What circumstance, if any, warranted the strip search and prying her cavities. Do not offer the lame excuse of standard procedure. (4) Were any fraudulent or false documents used by Devyani Khobargade in USA to induce any person (including US Government) to do or omit to do anything which otherwise such induced person would not have done? Please do not mention the documents produced by Sangeeta Richard before the US embassy in India along with her application for Visa as this conduct is not actionable in the United States (at best US Government can cancel the Visa and file a First Information Report with Indian Police. Please name these documents and their import.) I don’t have any quarrels with the right of the United States to enforce her laws. Please do it by all means, but maintain decorum and dignity of individuals. The guilt of the US Establishment is further corroborated by arranging a clandestine travel of the family of Sangita Richard to USA. Do not try to use this argument to justify your stand. People in America are laughing at you.
