International Women's Day: Five Bollywood tracks for ladies to put on repeat today

The International Women’s Day is here and what better a way to celebrate the day than tune into some soulful, kickass songs that celebrate womanhood. This 8 March, as you step out to yet another day, just a little different maybe(?), here are a bunch of tracks you might want to mark favourite. ‘Dhaakad’ (Dangal) “Gold to gold hota hai…chhora lave ya chhori!” We had to begin the playlist with this absolutely pumping track from one of last year’s most powerful films, Dangal. ‘Dhaakad’, sung by Raftaar, is apt and gives you the feels from the very minute it begins. We are sure that this track pulls you out of bed and charges you with infectious energy. This Women’s Day, ‘Dhaakad’ should definitely be on the top of your list if you are looking for an enthusiastic start to celebrating yourself. Especially if it is a “Nikkar aur T-shirt pahan ke aaya cyclone” kind of day!

A worthy throwback to the Dangal girls wrestling it out in absolute style, isn’t it? ‘Jugni’ (Queen) From ‘Jugni’ to ‘Kinare’, for a lot of us the entire playlist of Queen definitely seems like a shoutout to all the lovely women out there. While Kangana Ranaut’s blockbuster can be binge-watched like all those sitcoms, Amit Trivedi’s tunes never seem to get old. ‘Jugni’, we are guessing, is meant for the drive to office or for a road trip with your girl gang, while ‘Kinare’ is breezy and will give you the perfect slow motion filmy feel, with some high notes peppered therein.

Don’t forget to end your day with ‘Gujariya’ though. ‘Aali Re’ (No One Killed Jessica) Featuring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee, this No One Killed Jessica track was surely one of a kind when it released. Like the song boasts of, it is “Halkat”, “Moohfat” and much more. This groovy and badass track was actually crooned by as many as eight artistes, including Tochi Raina, Shriram Iyer and Anushka Manchanda among others.

‘Patakha Guddi’ (Highway) Here we go, the compulsory AR Rahman to the playlist. Alia Bhatt’s Highway is definitely highlighted with some soul stirring music. ‘Patakha Guddi’ and the many versions of it will keep you humming and add the right magic to your varied playlist for this Women’s Day.

‘Badal Pe Paon Hai’ (Chak De India) Ten years later, Chak De India still remains one of the top movies to pop up in the women genre. Shah Rukh Khan and his sena did set new standards with the brilliant women in this hockey drama. ‘Badal Pe Paon Hai’, after all these years, remains fresh and a playlist favourite for the day of the women.
