Aarushi case: Don't blame the middle class, blame the media

Editors note: This is an extremely thought provoking comment by one of our readers aasare, left on the article ‘ Why the Aarushi Talwar case was the end of middle class innocence' published earlier today. Aasare makes the valid point that it is the media, and not the middle class that needs to introspect because of how it handled the entire Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case. Apart from light editing for grammar and some strong language, the comment has been left as is. by aasare This is pointless media ranting. The last word hasn’t been said on this case, so why don’t you guys just let it be instead of endless, useless speculation on what has/hasn’t happened. [caption id=“attachment_1252569” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![The entire case is a media tamasha](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Aarushi-Hemraj5.jpg) The entire case is a media tamasha[/caption] The middle class is a easy class to beat up but lets face it these are basically powerless, hapless citizens. We might have more media space as a class, but definitely not as individuals and in any case media space doesn’t translate into meaningful power. It was media which made the sad incident a tamasha, not the middle class. It was your fraternity that ignored Hemraj, not the middle class. We see, hear, read and interpret what you report, not vice versa. Media is wonderful at pinning blame on everyone but itself. Some of the headlines being put out on TV/Print on this issue is downright repulsive, most are running kangaroo courts with useless debates. More importantly do you even think about how mindless headings on lines of ‘Aarushi ko mummy papa ne maara’ can have an impact on other children who come across such news? If SC were to reverse this decision, will you be able to undo the damage you are all now inflicting? Isn’t there enough negativity in the country right now to avoid going overboard on such issues? If anything this case has established a lack of balance in media reporting.
