Volvo XC60 announced at Geneva Motor Show: Specifications, features

Volvo at the 87th annual Geneva International Motor Show took the liberty to announce and showcase its premium mid-size SUV called the XC60. The XC60 has been seen in spy shots and was teased by the company itself. And it is a big deal because it represents around 30 percent of the Volvo’s global sales.  The new XC60 is not the XC90 with a smaller body, even though it shares the same platform as the rest of Volvo’s current line up. There’s plenty of new stuff here in terms of design. In fact, there are some rather distinct design touches on the new XC60 that make it stand out even from Volvo’s current range of vehicles.   “The XC60 is an SUV not designed to look down on others but to drive. The exterior has an athletic sculpture with a subtle, timeless quality. The interior is a masterful composition of well-resolved architecture, beautiful materials and the very latest technology - all perfectly blended together. The XC60 provides a true Scandinavian experience which will make our customers feel special,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design at Volvo Car Group.  The use of the same platform for a smaller SUV model, resulted in one of the shortest overhangs ever on a Volvo SUV with plenty of space between the wheels for passengers and added safety as well.  The new alignment of the Thor’s hammer headlamps that fuse with the front grille and the wrap around tail lights along with a newer design, which resembles the bigger XC90 (but are different), add to the premium look and are a departure from the design theme on the older XC60 model.  As with every Volvo, safety is always priority but this time Volvo has also added performance to its checklist. The new XC60 offers Volvo’s award-winning T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid at the top of the powertrain range, delivering 407 hp and acceleration from 0-100 Km in just 5.3 seconds. There’s also a petrol-powered T5 delivering 254 hp and the T6, which with both turbo and superchargers attached, delivers 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
