Volkswagen is reportedly preparing for the launch of its sporty performance hatchback called the Polo GTI in the month of November. The number of units imported into the country are said to be limited and deliveries for the performance hatchback are said to happen by December. The news about the launch was revealed by The Hindu BusinessLine, with Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India confirming that the cars are on their way to India and have been shipped from the company’s Pamplona plant in Spain. While Polo fans will be glad to know that hot hatch is on its way to India, they should be a bit worried as it is expected to arrive in limited numbers. The car will be expensive as well, at an expected Rs 25 lakhs. The vehicle is supposed to pack in quite a punch with a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing maximum power output of 189bhp and maximum torque figure of 320Nm. Volkswagen feels that there is a demand for such performance vehicles and BMW’s Mini and Fiat’s Abath 595 are proof of this. “The idea is to offer something more on the plate for enthusiasts. Driving is the biggest strength in a GTI,” Mayer told BusinessLine. The company which is still stuck with its emissions scandal is positive about sales and wants to target customers from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The target group consists mainly of youngsters who hooked on to similar brands like Harley Davidson and Royal Enfield.
