Volkswagen India rolls out 500,000th car from its Pune plant

Volkswagen India has rolled out its 500,000th car from its factory at Chakan in Pune. The milestone car is a red Polo GT TSI. The plant was inaugurated in March 2009 when it began production of the Skoda Fabia. By the end of the year, the Polo was rolling off the production lines. The Vento’s production began in August 2010. The plant began exporting cars in 2013.

The plant caters to both the domestic as well as international market. 430 cars are produced everyday in two shifts and has a 3,200-strong workforce (consisting of “direct and indirect employees”, says Volkswagen).
