American bike maker UM International (UM) has plans to the start selling its bikes in India. The company intends to roll out its first cruiser motorcycle with the objective of targeting consumers who desire a cruiser in the Rs 1 lakh - 2 lakh range.  According to Business Today, UM will be assembling these units from its Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand. The company has readied a broad infrastructure to jump into the leisure biking segment and this even includes an R&D team of 22 engineers who will connect with the company’s Miami global R&D and design team. The company in India has joined hands with Lohia Auto and will now be called UM Lohia Two-Wheelers Pvt. Ltd. (UML).  Looking broadly at the cruiser market, the company has readied its Renegade model. The engine comes from China UM eventually plans to have 100 percent localisation. In fact, it plans to make India it hub for other global markets as well. UM is a motorcycle brand born in America and was first registered with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office by its founders, the Villegas Family, in the early 2000s.
