It has barely been four months since its launch, but Tata Motors has decided to hike the price tag of its Tiago hatchback. The price hike comes shortly after Maruti and Hyundai bumped up the price tags of their vehicles. Depending on which variant you choose, the range of the price hike is between Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 and there is a simple reason for this. The higher prices are the result of the end of the introductory pricing period, which ended in August where the company offered its latest hatchback at slightly lowered price tags. The Indian Express confirmed the same in conversation with a spokesperson, “Yes, there is a marginal increase in Tiago prices. As you must be aware that we launched the Tiago with an introductory pricing, which usually is offered for around three months but we have extended to five months for our customers,” According to the same, the response to the car had been so good, that production had to be ramped up as well. Tata Motors has even added a second shift at it manufacturing facility at its Sanand Plant where the company also manufactures the Tata Nano. The price hike seems a bit odd, considering that Ford India recently slashed the prices of its Ford Aspire and Figo hatchback by up to Rs 91,000. However, in Ford’s case this was done in a bid to increase sales.
