The highly anticipated Suzuki Swift is finally official. The next generation hatchback was unveiled at special event in Japan and will be making a world premiere at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. Post the global announcement it will start selling in various regions including India.
We’ve seen leaked information of the new hatchback in the past but we can now confirm all the changes that it will arrive with. There will be a bunch of changes on the exterior as well as the interior. The car is built on the same design platform as the Baleno and is said to be 15 percent lighter than before. It even looks a bit like the Baleno, only better. There is a new hexagonal honeycomb pattern grille on the front along with new sweptback headlamps which will be loaded with projector units and L-shaped daytime running lights. There is a new bonnet and a new front bumper with large round fog lamps.
The side profile is just like the current model with a few changes like new rear door handles, ORVMs integrated with turn signal lights and new diamond cut alloy wheels. At the back there are new LED tail lights, a lip spoiler integrated into the boot lid and a larger rear bumper.
Moving to the interiors there is new upholstery, new dashboard, flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, twin-pod instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and improved plastic for the buttons and knobs. It will also come with comfort features like electrically adjustable ORVMs, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto equipped system, Bluetooth AUX and USB connectivity, auto climate control and more.
The Swift announced for the Japanese market features a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet engine. There is also a 1.2-litre Dualjet diesel engine paired to Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki which is commonly known as SHVS technology. This is the same technology that comes on the Ciaz Hybrid in India. There will also be a Swift Sport variant which for the global market with a higher power output. In India however it is expected to arrive with the same 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines. An all-new 1.5-litre in-house. developed engine option is also on the cards.
