Select Volvo cars will soon be able to talk to one another

There’s a lot of talk about autonomous cars and there is also talk about Volvo and Uber. Volvo who recently signed a partnership with ride sharing giant Uber, will be looking at developing self-driving cars and related technologies. But that’s for 2020 or 2021 onwards where electric and autonomous cars are expected to make an appearance in the common man’s garage. For now Auto Evolution reports, Volvo has something else up its sleeves and it is to do with some of its cars talking to one another. [caption id=“attachment_331549” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![The standard Volvo XC90.](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Volvo-XC90-black-perpective.jpg) The standard Volvo XC90.[/caption] Volvo says that all of its 90 series vehicles that includes the XC90, S90, and V90, will soon be able to communicate with one another. The same will take place using the cloud, so the vehicles would not necessarily have to be in close range to be able to achieve the same. The system works independent of the driver and has been setup to relay road conditions to the driver warning them about possible hazards like a slippery surfaces, avoid accidents in the form of obstacles and much more. It all starts by the end of the current year, with the vehicles being able to exchange some form of data to begin with before going all in. Coming to the “hows?” it all works via the internet since there’s the cloud that’s involved in this system. With that said cars will need to connected via a constant data connection for the system to be effective. But Volvo is not the first as Mercedes-Benz and Toyota are working on similar systems as well. Eventually it will make more sense if there is a shared standard so that system works more effectively to benefit drivers.
