Pak Suzuki has announced that it will soon be phasing out its iconic Mehran vehicle in favour or a newer Suzuki Alto.

The Suzuki Mehran, which features an 800cc engine, will be replaced by a Suzuki Alto that packs in a 660cc engine. Pak Suzuki also has plans to introduce the 1,000cc Celerio by March 2017. The Suzuki Celerio will replace the current Suzuki Cultus which has been in Pakistan since 2000.

News about the same surfaced during the visit of the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production to the Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) plant. The Committee urged the car maker to fit the new car with all safety features as per global standards.

Suzuki will also be considering the Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV and the Ciaz in the country, according to report in Dawn. The Celerio, Grand Vitara and Ciaz may be assembled in Pakistan.

Sources from  Dawn have said that Pak Suzuki has already started the localisation process for part of the Alto. This would be a big push for the ‘Assemble in Pakistan’ initiative.
