Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift leaks, could come with a premium design

The Swift has been a popular seller for Maruti Suzuki in India. The affordable yet promising hatchback has ruled its segment for a long time and it’s finally time for an update. We’ve seen facelifts and even a sedan version (Dzire) but we really need is a new design. Well thanks to a couple of leaks we now know that the next-generation Swift is on its way and it looks brilliant, well at least from what we can see. Codenamed as YSD, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift will get a new front as seen new spy shots. Apart from the obvious new exteriors, the interiors will also be completely new. According reports, Maruti will be announcing the new Maruti Suzuki Swift along with the 2017 Maruti Swift Dzire at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This means that we can expect a launch in India by mid 2017. The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to get a the new Baleno platform and will be sportier than its predecessors. The leaked mages show an all new chrome hexagonal grille split into two parts. The grille is flanked by new projector headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. Below that is a wide air dam and round fog lamp enclosures. The side profile is going to be similar along with a slopping roof-line. At the back expect LED taillights and a redesigned rear bumper. ![maruti-swift-2017-leak (3)](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/maruti-swift-2017-leak-3.jpg) As for the engine, the Indian version will be powered by the existing petrol and diesel options. This means the same 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder petrol engine that can churn out 84bhp of maximum power along with 114Nm of peak torque. As for the diesel variant, it will be a 1.3-litre four-cylinder DDiS engine with 74bhp of power and 190Nm of peak torque. The Swift Sport is also expected to be announced which will get a 1-litre BoosterJet petrol engine that produces 110bhp and 170Nm of peak torque and will come mated to a 5-speed gearbox. ![maruti-swift-2017-leak (2)](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/maruti-swift-2017-leak-2.jpg)
