MotoGP 2016: Andrea Dovizioso takes Sepang victory
Valentino Rossi finishes second, while Jorge Lorenzo finishes third
The 2016 MotoGP season had its ninth different winner, with Andrea Dovizioso claiming victory at a very wet Sepang. Dovizioso managed to stay at the front of the pack all through the race, eventually taking victory, in a race that saw the likes of Cal Crutchlow and Marc Marquez crash out.
That left the battle for first between Rossi and Dovizioso. Unfortunately for the Yamaha team, on the 15th lap Rossi ran wide on the entry to Turn 1, which meant that his Ducati rival was able to pull out a lead that could not be threatened...
On a track still wet following rain in the morning and at the start of the afternoon session, Australian Miller set a time of 1 min 41.305 on his factory Ducati.
Quartararo's win comes in his third season in MotoGP, the first with Yamaha's factory team after two years with the SRT satellite outfit. Of the 16 MotoGPs he has contested this season, he has claimed 10 podiums, including five victories.
Rossi announced in August that he would retire after the season-ending race at Valencia on 14 November.
