Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the new generation A-Class. The car sports subtle design changes, new interior trim and updated engines. Variants include the petrol, CDI and Motorsport Edition versions and the mental Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic.
The front end of the car gets a revised air dam and new headlights. Mercedes-Benz gives you the option of LED headlamps, however, those who purchase the AMG will get them as standard. The rear is essentially the same, save for new LED lights. The Motorsport Edition is based on the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team car. The car gets the traditional Silver Arrow colour while elements such as a huge rear spoiler, blacked out alloys and wing mirrors get a dash of what Mercedes-Benz calls Petrol Green. The AMG version looks even more radical with a black rear spoiler, and aero elements on the bumpers.
Mercedes-Benz will also provide an additional AMG Dynamic Plus package for the 45 4Matic version. The package sharpens the car further with the help of the mechanical front axle locking differential. The Dynamic Plus package also comes with the AMG Ride Control sports suspension. The fully automatic suspension adjusts damping forces on each wheel to suit the driving conditions.
The interior features upgraded materials with new colours for the dashboard trim. The screen atop the centre console has grown to eight inches in the Sport and AMG versions. The screen can be ordered as an option in the lower versions. The seats get an additional 60mm cushion depth which aid comfort, says Mercedes. The Motorsport Edition gets the Petrol Green accents for the air con dials and and other interior trims as well. The AMG version gets tasteful red stitching and Recaro seats just like the CLA 45 AMG. The new A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz to feature smartphone integration including Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink.
Mercedes-Benz has upgraded the engines with the A 220 CDI with a 7PS boost in power. The 381PS AMG 4Matic is the range topper with a torque rating of 457Nm. The A-Class models with the 7-G DCT transmission will also come with launch assist, a first for the car.
Expect the car to hit our showrooms soon.
