Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new E-Class Coupe that along with its elegant design and flowing lines is also intelligent in more ways than one. The coupe comes after the recent spew of announcements from the E-Class lineup that includes the saloon, an estate and an all-terrain.
The E-Class Coupe is based on the E-Class saloon but sits 15mm lower. Mercedes-Benz claims that its E-Class Coupe is larger than the previous model in every way, which apart from its size, also includes better handling. While outsides have flowing lines that goes with the automaker’s new lineup of vehicles, the two-door E-Class still maintains the split rear passenger window. Stylish and sporty looks aside, there’s also some new tech that adds to the class. Featured for the first time on a Mercedes-Benz vehicle are the two-part, extremely flat LED tail lamps. The rear set of LED tail lamps will illuminate successively from the centre of the vehicle outwards when the vehicle is opened. On locking, the light sequence runs in the opposite direction. The taillight show welcomes and says goodbye to the vehicle user similar to the familiar welcome feature of the blue optical-fibre show in the front headlamp cluster than also includes the LED Multibeam headlamps. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe also features Air Body Control using a multi-chamber air suspension system to let the occupants enjoy soft basic suspension, along with the secure feeling of good handling stability at higher speeds. Other tech goodies also include full smartphone integration which reduces the need to find a plug to connect your smartphone to the vehicle’s infotainment system. The unique system works with compatible mobile phones and not just charges them wirelessly, but also lets your smartphone connect to the vehicle’s external aerial by means of capacitive aerial coupling. Thanks to this, NFC turns the customer’s smartphone into digital vehicle key, which allows the car to be locked, unlocked and started as well. Coming to the specifications the model lineup is said to include 4 versions. The E 220 d, with a 4-cylinder in-line 1950cc engine with 143kW and 400Nm of torque. Then there’s the E 200 with a 4-cylinder in-line 1991cc engine with 135kW and 300Nm of torque. The E 300 with a 4-cylinder in-line 1991cc engine with 180kW and 370Nm of torque and a E 400 4MATIC with a V-6 2996cc engine that produces 245kW of power and 480Nm of torque. All cars at launch will come with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes recently unveiled its E 63 4MATIC+ and E 63 S 4MATIC+ sports saloons. Mercedes-AMG referred to them as its most intelligent executive saloon. We wonder if the Coupe shown above is smarter?
