Mercedes-AMG today launched its all new Mercedes-AMG G63 'Edition 463' and the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 in India. Both performance SUVs come with their respective premium price tags with the Mercedes-AMG G63 'Edition 463' priced at a whopping Rs 2.17 crore and the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 priced at Rs 1.58 crore (ex-showroom Pune).
With the two new performance SUVs, Mercedes-Benz now has a total of eight models in its SUV lineup.
The Mercedes-AMG G63 may look boxy and old-school, but there's plenty of horsepower under the hood, all of which is systematically transferred to the 4 wheel drive system.
Power comes from a 5.5-litre supercharged V8 engine that churns out 572 bhp and 570 Nm of torque. The engine that is quite powerful by SUV standards, is mated to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox. Thanks to the AMG transmission, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 210 kmph.
Next up is the more modern looking option of the two, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. The GLS 63 packs in similar power but adds a modern twist when it comes to the design. Yes, the more aerodynamically sculpted one of the two is cheaper at Rs 1.58 crore.
Getting into the specifications, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 packs in a 5.5-litre Biturbo V8 which generates 585 bhp and 760 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to the same AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox and comes with a permanent AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
