After a number of teasers and unofficial photo shoots
, Maruti Suzuki has finally made official that its Ignis crossover will be launched in India on 13 January. The automaker listed the new Ignis on its Nexa brand website as coming soon and multiple sources claim that the date is set for 13 January 2017. According to a report
by Overdrive, the details according to insiders is confirmed for 13 January. The compact crossover will be the third crossover in the Maruti Suzuki lineup that comes after the S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza. The fresh new Ignis is however expected to replace the now ageing Ritz and was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. As you may have noticed, Maruti Suzuki will be selling the Ignis across India via its Nexa dealerships. The Ignis would be the third product sold under the Nexa brand after the Baleno and the S-Cross.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis comfortably sits 4 occupants which would include the driver. The crossover showcases a fresh new design with chrome inserts in the front facade and a black insert for the bumper in the rear. The moderns twist comes from the squared headlamps that also pack in LED DRLs which form the outline, giving it a distinct look.
The interiors look pretty much like the exteriors, but sticks to a practical look with matching dashboard colours and a bright orange inlay near the shifter. Also featured is a floating screen infotainment system as well as touchscreen music system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Coming to the engine, previous leaks
point out that the vehicle will be available in two options. A petrol variant that packs in a 1.2-litre engine that delivers 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. The diesel variant features a 1.3-litre motor capable of producing 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque. While the standard is a 5-speed transmission, there is also an AMT version expected. While we still have to wait until next year for the car to launch in India, the European-spec version of the car recently went through Euro New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) for 2016. It managed
to score a 3-star rating for the standard equipment trim and a full 5-stars when equipped with the optional safety pack.
