Maruti Suzuki’s latest crossover Ignis, is still due to arrive in India. One of the main reasons for the delay is due to the overwhelming response of cars like the Baleno and Vitara Brezza. While we still have to wait until next year for the car to launch in India, the European-spec version of the car recently went through Euro New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) for 2016. It managed to score a 3-star rating for the standard equipment trim and a full 5-stars when equipped with the optional safety pack. According to the Euro NCAP’s assessment, “The passenger compartment of the Ignis remained stable in the offset deformable frontal impact test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Suzuki showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and those sat in different positions.” The standard as well as the safety pack equipped variants of the Suzuki Ignis for the European market come equipped with dual front airbags along with side head, chest and pelvis airbags. The standard variant comes with ISOFIX mounting points, airbag cut-off switch and seatbelt reminder. The optional safety pack equipped variant includes AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) for city and inter-urban transport, pedestrian safety system, lane assist system and radar-assisted braking on the highway. The new Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be launched in early 2017 and will be sold at Maruti Suzuki’s premium NEXA dealerships. It will feature the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines.
