The Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been delayed for quite a while now and according to a report production backlogs of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno have forced the company to push the launch to next year. The Ignis is now going to launch sometime between the period of January to March in 2017.
The sub-4 compact crossover was first showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. It is currently available in Japan, and it made its European debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show with the launch expected in 2017. Last month the production version of the car had leaked.
While the Indian version could be slightly different, the international version of the Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, 1,595mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,438mm and ground clearance of 180mm. The Ignis crossover gets a sleek grille, projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lamps, flared wheel arches and a distinctive rear which comprises a large windshield and plastic cladding on the bumper.
Inside there is a dual-tone dashboard, body-colour highlights on dashboard and door panels, heated front seats, automatic climate control, SmartPlay infotainment system, and more. It will feature dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, and lane departure warning as safety features.
The engine could be borrowed from the Maruti Baleno which is 73.9bhp 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine and the 84bhp 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor. Rumours suggest that the company might also offer its SHVS mild hybrid engine option. The car's transmission options will include a five-speed manual and an AMT.
