Lucid Motors has announced an electric powered sedan with a range of 400 miles

Lucid Motors, a California based company has unveiled its own electric vehicle called the ‘Air’. The fully electric sedan comes with a 400-mile range thanks to its 100kWh battery. The company also claims that it can go from 0-60 mph in just 2.5-seconds. A prototype of the upcoming car was showcased in Fremont in California. It won’t be a Tesla competitor though as the company said that it is targeted at the executive market. Production models are expected to roll out in the market by 2018. Lucid Motors is planning to build its new electric vehicles from 2017 at a factory facility in Arizona which is expected to bring 2,000 new jobs to the state. lucid-motors-air It is noteworthy that Lucid’s founding team includes CTO Peter Rawlinson, who was a former Tesla team member, as well as Derek Jenkins, who previously served Mazda and Volkswagen. According to reports , Rawlinson had previously said that the cars would offer 1,000 horsepower on it electric motors, and that there would be a 400-mile version along with some autonomous features. lucid-motors-air-3 It definitely looks more refined than the offerings from Tesla and if numbers are actually true, then it will definitely be priced in a much higher tier. Considering the fact that it will be placed as an executive model, its safe to assume that the company wants to compete with the high-end BMW and Mercedes models.  The same report also suggests that the company has a partnership in place with Samsung SDI that will be providing batteries to the car-maker.
