The hybrid and electric car game is going strong and it’s creeping into the sports and hyper car segment. The latest company to join the gang is Lamborghini. The Italian car maker is said to launch its Urus SUV range which was showcased as a concept a while ago. According to a popular media publication, the car maker has confirmed the Urus range, which will also be the company’s first, and probably the only, plug-in hybrid. Since Lamborghini is owned by Audi which is owned by Volkswagen which also owns Porsche and Bugatti, the Urus will share its platform with the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga and will also feature a 48V-powered active anti-roll suspension. Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini’s R&D chief, said that there won’t be any compromise regarding the power of the car including other variants the SUV with petrol and diesel engines. He also said “A supersports car is completely different; you need the responsiveness of the engine, to feel the spark of every cylinder. We will keep normally aspirated engines for our other models. They are still the best choice.” Considering Lamborghini’s history of being particular about front-wheel- and rear-wheel-drive systems, we can expect the company to focus heavily on the drive system. If you are unaware, it won’t be the company’s first attempt to make an SUV as it has made large cars in the past with the LM002 being the first SUV which was on sale from 1986 to 1993.
