Hero Bicycles, the world’s largest bicycle manufacturer has gone electric. Yes, Hero Bicycles has launched a new brand of electric assist bicycles called Lectro. There’s a whole range of them to choose from and prices start from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000 for the most high-end model. The Lectro range of bicycles will officially arrive in India by January. They come in different body styles and sizes and this also includes a small wheeled version for children. There is also fat-wheeled bicycle with excessively chubby tires. All-in-all there are 5 bicycles to choose from and they feature a 250-watt electric motor that is placed in the rear wheel’s hub. The motor is powered by a 48-volt or a 36-volt battery pack that is mounted on the lower tube of the bike’s frame in case of the lower priced models. The top end models will have the battery pack built right into the rear hub. The idea of an electric assist bicycle is to assist the rider. The level of assist can be controlled from the controls mounted on the handle bar. Hero claims that the bicycles deliver a range of just over 50 kilometers on a single charge. Apart from assist bit, the Lectro range also offers Bluetooth sync and an electronic hub lock with a GPS based tracking feature.
