Racers who participate in the Ferrari Challenge race series will now have a new race car to tweak. Ferrari has introduced the Ferrari 488 Challenge race car, that will be available and ready to take on the racing grid in the coming year. The Ferrari 488 Challenge is powered by a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 engine that churns out 661 hp. While the engine is similar to what we have on the road car, the race car packs in a lighter drivetrain and the engine and transmission mapping have been improved with shorter gear ratios. Drivers will be able to adjust brakes, traction control and electronic differentials to their liking using the three manettinos that have been placed to suit their riding style for the race track. There are plenty of aerodynamics improvements as well. There’s a new front bumper with a chunkier splitter that delivers improved downforce along with inverted rakes that allow for better airflow, feeding air into the radiators. There are vents in the hood for cooling and the rear gets a massive wing. The race car will arrive next year, and this will be right on time to celebrate the one-make series’ 25th anniversary which was formed in 1992. The series consists of more 1,000 drivers with races taking place across three continents.
