EICMA 2016: BMW announces G310 GS and R1200 GS for your adventure trips

Almost all major brands have unveiled new products at the EICMA show in Italy and now BMW has joined the game. The German automaker’s Motorrad division has announced the G310 GS and the R1200 GS. The R1200 has been an iconic product and now it receives the GS badge which means that it is a dual purpose off-road/on-road bike. It features the same 1,710cc air/liquid-cooled boxer engine that can produce 125 hp of power and 125 Nm of torque. It also features a modified catalytic converter and revised engine management to meet Euro IV emissions standards. There is also a hill-start assist, for those tricky roads. It will also come equipped with a “next generation” electronic suspension adjustment that can adapt the damping based on the road conditions and keep the bike level even with a heavy load. The G310 GS is the one to look out for. Based on the G310 R which was launched earlier this year, the new bike is aimed for a more global audience. It will feature a 313 cc engine that produces 34 hp and 28 Nm of torque. If you remember we reported that the G310R is expected to hit the Indian market thanks to a partnership with TVS Group. There is a possibility that the GS version would also arrive. One of the reasons is that the engine has been designed to be fuel efficient something which is a major concern in markets like India. The front suspension will have an upside-down fork assembly while the rear uses an aluminum swinging arm with a spring strut. The G310 GS will offer a relaxed riding position and is designed to be comfortable for long-drives even on over rough terrain.
