Eicher Motors, Polaris redefine 'practicality' with Multix BS IV at Rs 3.43 lacs

Eicher Motors and Polaris Industries has launched its personal utility vehicle called the Multix BS IV. The utility vehicle which can be user-customised on the go to a great extent, will be priced at Rs 3,43,000 (ex –showroom Jaipur) with booking now open at Rs 2,999. Meant to be the a personal utility vehicle, the Multix’ highlights how the vehicle focus is on practicality, efficiency and its ability to power up other machinery as well.  While it may look like a commercial vehicle, owners of the Multix BS IV will have to register it as a private vehicle and not a commercial one. Its specialty lies in the fact that the owner can modify the vehicle according to his or her needs. Tagged as a 3-in-1, the vehicle can take up the form of a people carrier, goods carrier and even power generator.  The Multix BS IV will be available in two variants (AX+ and MX) and in four colours, red, white, silver and yellow. While it skips on some creature comforts like air conditioning, power steering, and disc brakes, it does make up for these in terms of practicality. There are however no airbags, but it does come with a tubular frame structure, roll-over protection system and independent suspension.  Powering the Multix is a 510.7cc, single cylinder BS-II compliant water-cooled engine that is hooked up to a 4-speed transmission. It delivers 9.79bhp and 27.1Nm of torque. The X-Port is where things get interesting, and it is mounted on the transmission of the vehicle (shown above). Owners can power things using X-Port and this includes electrical equipment and even mechanical water pumps. Overall it presents a rather practical solution but it does come with a Rs 3,43,000 sticker price.
