BMW partners with TVS Motors to mass produce the G310R in India

BMW is said to be planning to bring the G310R, its smallest capacity engine motorcycle to India. According to a report, the company will be partnering with TVS Group and will be manufacturing in India itself. The report also says that the 313cc motorcycle will be exported to the US and across Europe including BMW’s hometown Germany. BMW India President Frank Schloeder said that the company has big expectations from the G310R and that a lot has been happening behind the scenes. The motorbike will retain BMW’s popular Motorrad brand. Till now, all BMW bikes were imported. The G310R would be the first one to be made in India. This quite a big step from the company and the decision to manufacture in India means that BMW could be planning for mass production in the country.  The company is apparently working on the retail and distribution processes in India and expect the bike reach the market early 2017. While official pricing is not out, the G310R could be priced between Rs 2 - 2.5 lakhs. It will be produced at the TVS Motors Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. There is also news that TVS will be producing a local version of the G310R called the Akula 310. This was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.  The bike features a 6-speed gearbox and the 313cc engine can produce 34bhp of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The bike is said to offer a top speed of 144km/h and will have ABS as standard fitment.
