Audi temporarily halts sale of Q5 SUV in India due to emission issues

Popular German car maker Audi is in a bit of trouble in India. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has found that emission levels on the Q5 SUV are higher than the prescribed standards, thus leading to a temporary suspension in sales. The level of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emitted was higher than the acceptable limit on the diesel versions of the Q5, confirms Audi . The reason for higher emission was due to air being trapped inside the coolant system. The company has also confirmed that the issue was resolved with ARAI after a software calibration update and changes are being made to the models. However production of the Q5 at Audi’s Aurangabad facility has been halted and dealers have also stopped accepted bookings for the car. The issue will be a big blow for the company as it will affect sales volumes. With the festive season approaching, the company will have to pull up its socks or it will lose against rivals like BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover, all of which offer premium SUV cars. The Audi Q5 was launched in India back in 2009 and is powered by the 2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The next generation of the Q5 is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Paris Motor Show next month.
