After luxury SUVs, Jeep could bring in localised Renegade and Compass models to India

Fiat Chrysler-owned brand Jeep, finally launched its SUVs in India yesterday. While the models on offer and their capable variants were interesting, the bigger shocker was the price tag and how Jeep has positioned its Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in the luxury SUV segment. While the price tags start from a hefty Rs 71.59 lakhs, Jeep also announced that it would looking to build C and B segment SUVs that will be priced in the Rs 15-20 lakh range. This is indeed a clear hint that Jeep means business and that it will soon have products that should compete with the likes of the BMW X1, Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza and even the Ford EcoSport. According to the Economic Times, Jeep has confirmed plans to produce a C segment Jeep SUV that should be available in 2017. The localised Jeeps for now are codenamed the 556 and 526. But no details were shared about the vehicles. The same also points out how Jeep has invested around $280 million in the new factory to produce the premium Jeep models. In all probability, the B Segment Jeep would be the its Renegade SUV while the C segment SUV could be the Compass. But nothing can be confirmed for now. In the US, the vehicle is offered in FWD and 4X4 drive options.
